Teaching Philosophy:

After maintaining a private studio for over 10 years, I've learned my greatest priority is that students ENJOY the time we spend together. Music lessons provide an incredible opportunity for students to experiment with a new medium, explore repertoire, history, and style and express their most authentic selves. The learning outcomes I hope to see in my students include fluency in reading music, ability to play by ear and improvise, and development of artistry. Perhaps most important to me as a teacher is to see students develop all of the life-changing personal skills that go hand in hand with consistent practice. Private lessons are about so much more than advancing the quantifiable abilities of an intelligent and well-rounded musician. My greatest pride comes from watching a student build confidence, discipline, and creativity that can be applied in arenas far beyond practice and performance. 

Like learning any new skill, intentional practice can prove to be just as challenging as it is rewarding. In these moments of frustration, it's okay to take a break if that means you come back with more curiosity and JOY for the process. Whether your goal is to become a career musician, rediscover a childhood hobby, or simply learn a song to share with your loved ones-- music lessons are for anyone who is courageous enough to invest in themselves!
